Medical disclaimer
Baku is built on methods research supports, and it is honest about what it is: a companion, not a clinician.

Auf Deutsch lesen1. A wellness app, not a medical device
Baku is a wellness product. It is not a medical device under the Swiss Medical Devices Ordinance (MedDO) or the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR), and it has not been evaluated or approved by Swissmedic or any other health authority. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or disorder, including nightmare disorder, insomnia or post-traumatic stress disorder.
2. Information, not advice
The content in the app and on this website, including the Dream Atlas, Insights, the research paper, programmes and the AI Guide's answers, is general information. It is based on published research, which we cite and label by strength of evidence, but it is not medical, psychological or therapeutic advice for your situation and does not create a doctor-patient or therapist-client relationship. Sleep figures from a connected watch or ring are estimates from a consumer device, not a medical measurement.
3. When to see a professional
Please talk to a doctor, psychologist or therapist if:
- your nightmares are linked to a traumatic event, or come with flashbacks or strong fear during the day;
- you are afraid to go to sleep, or your sleep affects your work, relationships or health;
- you act out dreams, move violently in your sleep, or someone notices you stop breathing at night;
- you have frequent night terrors as an adult;
- you have any concern about your physical or mental health.
Baku can be used alongside professional care. It should never delay or replace it. If your doctor or therapist recommended Baku, they did so without any financial interest: practices receive no commission from us.
4. In an emergency
Baku is not a crisis or emergency service and is not monitored around the clock. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, call your local emergency number now (112 in Europe, 144 for an ambulance in Switzerland, 911 in the US), or a crisis line:
- Switzerland: 143 (Die Dargebotene Hand), 147 for young people (Pro Juventute)
- Germany: 0800 111 0 111 or 0800 111 0 222 (TelefonSeelsorge)
- Austria: 142 (TelefonSeelsorge)
- United Kingdom: 116 123 (Samaritans)
- United States: 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline)
The app shows the help lines for where you are.
5. Medication
Some medications, and starting or stopping them, can affect sleep and dreams. Baku may suggest you ask your doctor about this. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something in the app.
6. The AI Guide
The Guide is an AI system. Its reflections and suggestions can be incomplete or wrong. It is designed to recognise signs of crisis and to point to human help, but it can miss them. Use your own judgement, and seek professional help when you need it.
7. Traditions and dream meanings
Tradition content is offered as cultural and spiritual perspective, never as medical advice or prophecy. No dream predicts the future, and no symbol means something bad will happen.
8. Results
Research suggests that methods like imagery rehearsal help many people, but results vary and are not guaranteed. We share Baku's own results only once we have measured them.
