How it works

A calm rhythm for the whole 24 hours.

Bad dreams are shaped by the whole day, so Baku is too. One home screen follows the sky, and each moment has a single clear job. Here is a day with Baku, from the first minute after waking to 3 a.m.

Morning, capture

Catch the dream in under a minute.

Dreams fade within minutes of waking. Baku opens dim and voice-first: hold to talk with your eyes half open, and your words are transcribed on your phone. Give the night one of four moons: calm, bad dream, nightmare or no memory.

If it was a nightmare, Baku asks one thing: would you like to rewrite it now, or later?

  • On-device transcription
  • Emotion words and how distressing it was, if you want
  • Nothing to type at 7 a.m.

Rewrite, with imagery rehearsal

Change the ending while you’re awake.

This is the core of Baku and the method sleep medicine recommends. Pick a nightmare, a milder one first. Tap the moment where it turns; you never have to write the whole thing. Change it any way you like: a new ending, a helper who arrives, a new place, a power, something absurd.

Then rehearse the new version for about ten minutes a day for a week. Read it once, close your eyes and live it in detail. The Guide can nudge your writing, but your words stay your words.

Day, learn

One true thing a day, with its source.

Midday is quiet: your rehearsal, one Atlas card (a fact, a lesson or an old tradition next to its modern twin), and a light check-in on how heavy the day feels.

If you like, note caffeine, alcohol, exercise or a stressful day. Over weeks, Baku can show patterns that hold for you, and never pretends a correlation is a cause.

Evening, wind down

A ritual that is yours, and never too long.

Build your wind-down from short steps: close the day (a two-minute worry list), slow breathing, a body scan or muscle relaxation, one more rehearsal, an intention for tonight, a practice from a tradition you chose, a note from someone who loves you.

The screen warms and dims as bedtime nears. When it ends, Baku says goodnight and goes quiet.

3 a.m., Nightlight

Help that needs no reading.

If you wake, Nightlight turns the screen to a warm ember light on black: no blue light, big targets, at most three choices. Breathe with a soft haptic heartbeat that slows from about 60 to 50 beats a minute. Hear a loved one’s voice, recorded in daylight. Say it out loud for twenty seconds and leave it for the morning. Or go back to sleep with slow rain and a body scan.

It fades to black by itself after ten seconds without a touch. It never asks you to sign in, pay or decide anything. It is free, forever, and it works offline.

Progress, the moon calendar

Every night is a moon. A month becomes a sky.

Progress you can see without a score to chase. Each night becomes a moon: full for calm, half for a bad dream, ember for a nightmare, an outline when you remember nothing. Baku rewards what you control (practice, with rest days allowed) and celebrates what improves.

On Sundays, Plus members get a short letter about their week of nights.

Works with your wearable

Your watch or ring, if you wear one.

Connect Apple Health, Health Connect, WHOOP or Oura, and Baku adds what your device measured to your nights: when you fell asleep, how long you slept, and the wakes it noticed, even the ones you do not remember. Read only, and you can disconnect at any time.

Watches and rings estimate sleep stages from movement and heart rate. They are useful for seeing patterns over weeks, but they are not a sleep lab, so Baku shows them as approximate and never as a diagnosis.

The Guide

A companion that knows its limits.

The Guide is an AI companion that can tidy a sleepy, spoken dream into a clean entry, reflect on it through the lenses you choose (science, psychology, traditions), help you write a new ending, and suggest small actions you confirm with a tap.

  • It never diagnoses, and never says what a dream predicts
  • Entries marked “keep private from AI” never reach it
  • You can read, edit and delete what it remembers
  • Words that suggest a crisis bring up human help straight away
